Visiting Noirmoutier

Visits to Crestview

Visits to Noirmoutier are culturally enriching opportunities to experience life in another country by staying in the home of congenial hosts who eagerly showcase their families' favorite meals and incorporate us into their daily routines. Lots of special activities are also planned, which have included gala dinners, cultural performances, festivals, ecumenical church services, World War II re-enactments, attending market days, "pique-niques" on the beach and day trips to nearby cities and historic sites.

Though we participate in many group activities organized by the Noirmoutier Sister City Committee, each Crestview visitor's experience is different because each host family also has special activities planned. These include meals at favorite eateries, bicycling, walking in the forests that line the coasts, shopping at favorite shops, and visiting other host families for small group meals, parties and other get-togethers.

Our visits frequently include an optional 1- or 2-night historic and/or cultural excursion at additional expense.

When our friends from Noirmoutier visit us in Okaloosa County, we try to greet them and entertain them with the same warmth and congeniality we experience in France — with a Southern accent, of course!

The Crestview Area Sister City Program arranges a schedule of activities including musical and other cultural performances, meals, tours and shopping days, plus we make sure our visitors get to experience the Emerald Coast's world-famous sugar-white beaches and emerald green waters.

As we do in Noirmoutier, our guests stay in our homes and share our cooking, though sometimes we like to treat them to favorite restaurants, or team up with other hosts to make a bodacious feast or picnic.

Sometimes there are slight language or cultural challenges which add to the hosting experience, often with hilarious results. Hosts and guests form bonds through such shared faux pas and home-stay experiences. These friendships span not just continents and an ocean, but lifetimes as well.
